  • Been There, Killed That

“Follow me they said. There will be adventure they said. Go kill some dragons they said! Well I didn’t sign on for 20 years of walking through dank caves and tombs just to risk my life for a succession of slightly better means to kill what hellish creations dwell in those dank places!!!” Sputtered Roderick from atop his horse as the group road towards the ruins of Castle Hellespont.

“Oh hush up. It’s not so bad. Life as an adventurer lets you meet all sorts of wonderful people.” Came the gentle reply of the grey haired maiden who rode next to him. It had been nearly twenty years to the day since the little group had answered a wanted ad to clear out the goblins from the bog just outside of town. Back then she had looked so much younger and her bardic songs had lacked the sarcastic edge they now contained.

“Oh yes! Let me not forget the kinds of PEOPLE we meet dear Alana. Oh praise be to the sun god we don’t forget all the thieves and murderers we’ve meet! Oh and there was that time Davit pissed off that Lich and he was turned to stone for four bloody months while we went adventuring to find a cure!”

The little halfing with the grey curls couldn’t help but laugh at Roderick. They had been together so long that she had almost forgotten what it was like to not hear the old wizard complaining. Their battles had been many and the years had been hard. Even still the Company of the Dead Men had far outlived their company’s name despite the world’s best attempt to do them in.

“OH and how about the armies! We’ve leveled THREE of them. Yes, that’s THREE wars we’ve stopped for this kingdom… and for what? The king gave me an ancient staff so that next time his enemies come knocking I can scorch them all FASTER?”

Alana just smiled from atop her steed. “Are you done Roderick?”

The wizard gave an exasperated sigh, “Of course my lady.“

Moments passed in silence before the little halfing spoke again, “You enjoy it don’t you.”

“I wouldn’t trade it for the world my dear.”
